ASDF RECRUITING COMMAND

Welcome to the Alabama State Defense Force Recruiting Command information website. The Recruiting Command has a trained staff located around the state eager to talk with you about joining the Alabama State Defense Force. Our personnel are friendly and will assist you in the best possible manner. Do not hesitate to call or email one of our recruiters, when you make a call for information you will not be pressured to join. We in the Recruiting Command are service oriented and want to answer your questions.

Joining the Alabama State Defense Force is an exciting process. Serving your state is a very noble action and it can be a rewarding experience. In the Alabama State Defense Force you will gain new skills and expand your military education.

THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS TO ENLIST ARE:

1. You must be between the age of 17 and 70, those who are 17 years of age must have parental consent; those over the age of 70 who are still in good health may serve with a waiver; prospective members should be in good health, although physical disabilities are not necessarily a barrier to service of some kind with a waiver.
2. You must meet with a recruiter and discuss your duty assignment opportunities.
3. A background check may be performed on each applicant.
4. An applicant will receive an application form after certain requirements have been met (may vary such as having to attend at least an additional drill after first visit and favorable background check is received) Each Brigade may have additional requirements.

When your enlistment has been approved you will take an oath of enlistment administered by an officer. Special education, civilian acquired skill or military service may result in a higher rank being appointed. Experience is appreciated and respected.

To be considered for a position as a Warrant Officer you need the minimum of an Associates degree from an accredited college or university or you must have served as a Warrant Officer while on active duty. To be appointed as a Commissioned Officer you must have a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university or you must have served as a Commissioned Officer on active duty. Waivers may be granted on a case by case basis especially for those with prior military service, military retirees, and those with professional degrees in law, medicine, religious ministry, etc.

   • If you have prior military service experience please have a copy of your DD-214 and/or your retirement separation papers available at the time of application.
   • What was your grade/rank, MOS, rating, and what did you do in service.
   • Any College, University, or Technical School degrees, diplomas, or certificates.
   • Any useful civilian experience you may have, like police, first aid, emergency management, public affairs, marketing, teaching, etc.

Recruiting is not limited to specific brigade areas of responsibility but referrals of applicants to other brigades are encouraged.
