COMMANDER
Maj Gen Charles Rowe
is serving as the Commander of the Alabama State Defense
Force.

DEPUTY
COMMANDER
(Air)
Brigadier General Ronald Nolan is serving as the Deputy
Commander (Air) of the Alabama State Defense Force. He
also currently serving an additional duty as the
Commander of the 3rd Infantry Brigade. Brig
Gen Noland was appointed as commanding general of the
3rd Brigade, Alabama State Defense Force in April, 2002.
He received a BS and Masters Degree from LSU and earned
a Doctorate in Education from the University of Southern
Mississippi. He is retired from the College of
Education, Auburn University and is currently on the
faculty of the Division of Teacher Education, Spring
Hill College.
BG Noland received his
commission through the AFROTC program at LSU and served
on active duty in Massachusetts and Yokota, Japan. His
Air Force Reserve duty assignments include the 908 TAG,
Maxwell AFB, 928 TAG, NAS, New Orleans; 926 TAG, Keesler
AFB, 14th AF, Dobbins AFB; State Preparedness Liaison
Officer-The Adjutant General-Mississippi; SPLO-TAG-Alabama.
He retired from the Air Force Reserve as a colonel (06)
with 30 years of service. His military career fields are
administration and personnel, education and training,
military plans, disaster preparedness and command. Other
service responsibilities included Air Liaison Officer to
the Air Force Academy, Blue and Gold Officer- US Naval
Academy, Alabama Wing-Civil Air Patrol, Commander-Lee
County CAP Squadron. Military leadership experiences
include past president, Auburn Air Force Assn; past
president, Plains Council-Reserve Officers Assn; past
vice president-Alabama Reserve Officers Assn; board of
directors-Mobile Chapter, Military Officers Assn of
America; member Mobile Area-Employment Support Guard and
Reserve Professional Military Education include
completion of the Air Command and Staff College, the
Industrial College of the Armed Forces, Air War College,
National Security Seminar, and the Senior Officers
Professional Military Education Course. BG Noland was
selected as the 14th Air Force Outstanding Disaster
Preparedness Officer in 1979. His military awards and
decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (2
clusters), Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force
Achievement Medal, Air Force Organizational Achievement
Ribbon, Air Force Outstanding Unit Ribbon (1 cluster),
National Defense Medal, Armed Services Reserve Medal (2
clusters), Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon (4
clusters), as well as several ribbons from the 3rd
Brigade, ASDF. He is married to Monetta Moak Noland.
They have 3 children and 6 grandchildren.

Brigadier General (AL)
John H. Griscom Jr.
BG (AL) John H Griscom Jr
was commissioned as a Medical Service Corps officer
through the ROTC program at North Georgia College with a
BS degree in Business Administration. He also has an MS
degree in Systems Management from the University of
Southern California. His active duty assignments
included Fort Benning, Korea, Fort McPherson, Okinawa,
Fort Sam Houston, Vietnam and Germany in command and
logistics slots. His Army schools were the Medical
Supply Officers Course; the Chemical, Biological, and
Radiological Officers Course; and the Army Medical
Department Officers Advanced Course.
After transferring to the US
Army Reserve, his assignments were as a student and then
instructor for the Command and General Staff Course in
the USAR Schools in Germany. After returning to the US,
his assignments were with the 87th Maneuver
Area Command in Birmingham, 3rd US Army TPU
Augmentation at Fort McPherson, and as Chief of Staff
for the 332nd Medical Brigade in Nashville.
He retired from the US Army Reserve as an LTC with 28
years service.
After active duty, BG
Griscom became a Department of the Army Civilian as a
Health Services Systems Analyst in the Plans Division at
7th Medical Command in Heidelberg, Germany.
His next assignment was as a management analyst in
DCSOPS at US Army Forces Command, followed by his final
assignment in the G3 at 3rd US Army as Chief,
Joint Operation Planning and Execution Systems Branch.
His military awards and

BG Griscom joined the Alabama State
Defense Force as a member of the 2nd Brigade
in July 2002. His positions with 2nd Bde
included Assistant G-3, Surgeon, G-3, Chief of Staff and
Deputy Commander. He was transferred to HQ, ASDF and
promoted to his current rank in October 2008 as Deputy
Commander, Army.

CSM John L. Blackburn is serving as the
2nd Command Sergeant Major for the Alabama State
Defense Force.
CSM Blackburn's previous assignments
within the Alabama State Defense Force were as the
Command Sergeant Major, ASDF Training Command, the
Command Sergeant Major and prior to that, the Aviation
Operations and Training Non-Commissioned Officer for
the, 402nd, Infantry Battalion, 4th
Infantry Brigade in Ozark, Alabama. CSM Blackburn also
served as the Adjutant for the 304th Battalion, 3rd Brigade.
CSM Blackburn is also currently
serving as the Deputy State Advisor for the Military
Emergency Management Specialist Academy.
CSM Blackburn started his active
duty military career as a Combat Infantryman in 1974. In
1978 CSM Blackburn transferred to the U.S. Army Aviation
Branch as an Attack (Cobra) Helicopter Crew chief. After
four years as an Attack Helicopter Crew chief, CSM
Blackburn, re-classified MOS's to become an Aviation
Operations Sergeant. During a military career that
spanned 22 years, CSM Blackburn served in Infantry,
Aviation, and Air Cavalry units through out the United
States, Panama, Europe and the Middle East. CSM
Blackburn's first duty assignment was as an
Experimentation Soldier at H.L.M.R. in Ca., where he was
assigned to the USACDEC. In 1991, CSM Blackburn deployed
to Saudi Arabia with the 1st Military Intelligence
Battalion (AE), 5th US Corps, which was under
Operational Control of the 18th Airborne Corps for
"Operations Desert Storm". He stood his last active duty
watch as the S-3, Operations Sergeant, Aviation Training
Brigade, Fort Rucker, Alabama.
CSM Blackburn's military schools
include the Lightweight Infantryman Course, Attack
Helicopter Maintenance Course, AH-1S (ECAS) Maintenance
Course, Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic
Non-Commissioned Officer Course, Advance

CSM Blackburn served as the Battalion CSM for the 402nd
Infantry Battalion when they were honored with the ASDF
Outstanding Unit Ribbon. CSM Blackburn is a member of
the "Sergeant Dixie Club", Class 001 and has also been
awarded "Colonel Ola Lee Mize", ASDF Award of
Excellence. From the VaSDF he has earned the
Communication Badge (Basic).
In his civilian life he works for
Army Fleet Support as an Apache Helicopter mechanic.
He and his lovely wife of 30 years,
have two sons who are both Eagle Scouts and
"Brotherhood" members of the "Order of the Arrow". CSM
Blackburn's oldest son, served in Air Force, both on
Active Duty and as a member of Alabama's Air National
Guard 187th Fighter Wing (Dixie Vipers), were he served
a tour in Iraq. His youngest son is a senior in college
where he is majoring in Biology, specializing in Cellar
and Molecular Biology. |
